Tsunami Nears Hawaii/Hawaii Under Tsunami Warning

Update: 3:07AM HST

The first wave is expected to hit Kauai island in the next few minutes and expected to reach Oahu about 3:21AM.

Open ocean buoys have registered various heights of waves.  However, the wave heights may rise as surge gets closer to the shoreline.

TSUNAMI WARNING FOR THE STATE OF HAWAII BASED ON AN 8.9 M EARTHQUAKE OFF HONSHU JAPAN.  EST. 1ST WAVE ARRIVAL IS 3:07 AM. –Hawaii State Civil Defense

The entire state of Hawaii is under a Tsunami warning, if you need to find out whether or not you should evacuate, locate your Yellowpages Phone book to access a detailed map of the flood zone or visit the Hawaii State Civil Defense website.

If you are not in the danger areas, please stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.  Many stores are filled with people looking to stock up on non-perishable foods and water.  Gas stations are seeing lines of cars waiting to fill-up.

PLEASE stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.  Also, avoid using your cell phones to make calls unless you have an emergency.  DO NOT call 911 unless there is an emergency.  Keep your televisions on a news channel, the radio on, and the browser connected for all the latest info.
